Our tow vehicle (Infinity FX35) did not come with a hitch. I called the dealer and they wanted $1,200 to install a hitch. After the paramedics revived me, I decided to seach the internet to see if I could purchase one for less. I found a site that had the OEM hitch, tow harness and shipping for $400. I bought the hitch and harness and decided to see if I could find a place that would intall it for me at a reasonable price. I called U-Haul and they said they could install it for $200. Wow, my total cost would be 1/2 of what the dealer quoted me. So I left my car at U-Haul for the install. They called me 4 hours later and stated that it would be $360 instead of $200. They said that it was more involved than they thought (translation, they had never installed an OEM hitch on an FX before). They also stated that they would have to REMOVE the bumper. But they DID said they had an aftermarket hitch that they could install for about $200 total. An aftermarket hitch would hang down and be very visable from the back. After much comtimplation I decided to install the hitch myself. It came with very good instructions and pictures. I set aside one Sunday and tackled the job. I had to drop the muffler and trim a small piece of the bumper but it went well. The wiring harness required that I strip everything out of the back of the car but it was "plug and play". It took me about 5 hours and it looks great for 1/3 the cost I was quoted.
